Oak Tree two-day yard sale

The Oak Tree community will hold a yard sale on Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Take State Road 200 to Southwest 103rd Street Road, go one block south on the right.

The Circle of French Friends

Le Cercle Des Amis Français meets on the third Friday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon at Marion County Sheriff’s Office Community Conference Room located at 9048 Highway 200, about ¼ mile from Walmart.

   The club promotes all things French: language, culture and fun. You do not have to be a fluent speaker to join the group.

Bryan Popin Ministries concert

Christ's Church of Marion County presents a special concert presented by Bryan Popin Ministries of Nashville. Christian concert pianist, singer, worship leader, minister, composer and arranger Bryan Popin ministers energetically and joyfully at the keyboard and virtually transfers joy and inspiration to those in attendance. This is a concert for the young, the old, the in between; something for everyone. You will hear gospel music, country music, Broadway show tunes, movie theme songs, classic music along with Bryan's original music. Enjoy the artistry of someone who has worked with Chaka Khan, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw among others. His hit song "Falling" was the theme song for the movie "On the Line." Bryan is proud that he touches lives, changes lives and saves souls. A love offering will be taken. This spectacular event, a concert you will not forget, is at 7 p.m.

A pre-concert pizza party  

Everyone is invited to join theForever Young Ministry in Christian Fellowship at a pre-concert pizza party sharing pizza, salad, ice cream and beverage at 6:15 p.m. Donations will be received.

Pig-nic at First Congregational

The third annual  Pig-nic at First Congregational UCC (7171 S.W. State Road 200) is set for Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Enrichment Center. The menu includes pulled barbecued pork, chips and a drink for adults ($7); and hot dogs, chips and a drink ($3 for kids under 9) -- baked beans and coleslaw for everyone.  Ice cream sundaes will be available for $1. Entertainment and activities include a police K-9 demonstration; OTOW's D'Clowns; golf lob-wedge competition; a story-telling corner; face painting, balloons and temporary tattoos. Tickets are available at the church office (Tues.-Thur., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), and at the door. 

Marion Landing craft fair

The annual Marion Landing Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon in the community’s Lifestyle Center at 8601 S.W. 65th Ave. Road across from Queen of Peace Catholic Church on State Road 200.

Created by our resident crafters, handcrafted items for sale will include jewelry, quilts, greeting cards, floral arrangements, handbags, home décor, paintings, lighted wine bottles, macramé, wall hangings, unique gifts and holiday items. Coffee/tea and donuts will be available for a nominal price. Admission to the craft fair is free and it is open to the public. No pets, please. For more information, call 352-237-7152.        

Joy Lutheran yard, bake sale

Joy Lutheran Church, Southwest State Road 200 at 83rd Place, Ocala, will have its annual indoor yard sale and bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Swenson Hall. The public is invited to donate such items as furniture, tools, gardening equipment and sports related items.  Kitchen and house wares, linens, books, and craft supplies are also welcome for donation. Please no clothes, shoes or electronics.

Yard sale items may be brought to Swenson Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon, or anytime during the day on Thursday or Friday, Oct. 17-18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Baked goods should be brought on Friday.  Please have all baked goods wrapped for sale and labeled, particularly if they contain nuts.

As usual there will be the “vintage” table for the special treasures as well as a craft and quilt section. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Mark your calendar for this well-known favorite community event and join us for a fun-filled day.

Vendors wanted for yard sale

The Ocala 200 Lions Club is holding a yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 19, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bank of the Ozarks located in the Friendship Plaza on State Road 200.

Space rental will be $15 and you must provide your own tables and set-up. Hot dogs will be available for purchase.

Book sale for animal food bank

A book sale to benefit the Animal Charity Food Bank will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Winn-Dixie, 8445 S.W. State Road 200, Ocala.

 A bag of books is $5.

Yard sales at Spruce Creek Preserve

More than 50 families have signed up for the Spruce Creek Preserve Community Yard Sale on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Spruce Creek Preserve is on State Road 200, just 2.5 miles west of County Road 484. Look for the American flag at the entrance.

Scandinavian Club of Marion County

The Scandinavian Club of Marion County invites people of Danish, Finish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish descent to join us at our next meeting Oct. 19. We will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Ocala Hilton, 3600 S.W. 36th Ave. in Ocala. The menu will be Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, salad, coffee and dessert. The cost is $16 per person. Dance Theater to present Twisted Beauty

The Royal Dance Theater will present “Twisted Beauty” on Sunday, Oct. 20 two times at West Port High School.

Chester Anderson is the producer, director, choreographer and a dancer in the show, which is a takeoff of Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty.

Many of the dances in the show originated from India and African.

Picnic at St. Jude

The Knights of Columbus Council 15644 invite you to join them for our first picnic on Sunday, Oct. 20, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The event will take place on the St. Jude Catholic Church grounds, 443 Marion Oaks Drive in Marion Oaks. Three-day ‘junque’ sale

Ocala West United Methodist Men's Club will hold its annual “Junque Sale” on Oct. 24, 25 and 26 at 9330 S.W. 105th St., Ocala.

The club will accept donations for this large charitable fund raiser at storage pods in church parking lot beginning Thursday, Sept. 5 and every Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct. 17 and every Saturday from Sept. 7 through oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon.

This event has been held for more than 20years.

Clothing cannot be accepted.

Baked goodies at Methodist church

There’s a real sweet treat going on at the Ocala West United Methodist Church on Thursday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Oct 25, beginning at 9 a.m.

In conjunction with the men’s annual “junque” sale, the Ocala West United Methodist Women will host their annual bake sale. Cakes, pies, breads, cookies and candy will be offered for sale. Hot dogs, chips and a coke for $3 will be offer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.

The men’s “junque”  sale will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The church is at 9330 S.W. 105th St., Ocala.

OTOW Democrats to meet

The next meeting of the On Top of the World Democratic Club is on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Arbor Club meeting rooms behind the pool in Rooms E and F. All OTOW Democrats and independents are welcome. The speaker at our October meeting will be Clovis Watson, Jr., the Florida State Representative for the district adjacent to ours. Elected to the Florida House in 2012, he is the former city of Alachua chief of police and city manager. He is an eloquent and forceful voice advocating for progressive ideas. Queen of Peace spaghetti dinner

The Pro-Family Ministry at Queen of Peace Catholic Church will be holding an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Friday, Oct. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The meal includes all you can eat spaghetti and meatballs, bread, a large all you can eat salad bar, and ice tea or coffee. The cost is $7 per person, and children under 18 are free. African Violet Club to meet

The African Violet Club of Ocala will meet on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Marion County Sheriff's Office (Brian Litz Sheriff's Substation), 9048 S.W. Highway 200, Ocala.
The program will be "Meet the Commercials." This brand new program highlights famous African violet commercial growers. Meet commercial
hybridizers and growers in their shops and growing areas around the United States via DVD. Video interviews serve to reveal some of their African violet secrets, as well as, giving a video tour of their growing areas including secret rooms.
This is sure to be an entertaining and informative meeting.

Book sale for SPCA

A book sale to benefit the SPCA will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Winn-Dixie from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be 25 and 50-cent books.

Sunday, Oct. 27

German American Club picnic

The German American Club of Marion County will host a picnic on Sunday, Oct. 27, at noon, in Coehadjoe Park. German American food will be prepared by club members and served buffet style. Please bring a dish to share and your own snacks. Music will be provided by Bavarian Oskar. Tickets purchased before the picnic are $7 per member or $10 per non-member. Chamber Music Society concert

The Marion Chamber Music Society is opening its 2013-2014 concert season with Motets, Madrigals and Medieval Music featuring The Florida Schola Cantorum, a group of singers from Gainesville led by Dr. Ed Schaefer dedicated to music of the Renaissance and Middle Ages. The free concert is at Ocala’s Queen of Peace Church, 6455 S.W. State Road 200 at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. The group will also showcase music of more recent times that follows in the tradition of those earlier eras.

Harvest Fest family event

S.H.I.N.E. - Sharing His Incredible News Everywhere! - HARVESTFEST.  The Children's Ministry presents a free family event featuring games, Bible stories, refreshments, candy, costume judging and much more. The Marion County Sheriff's office will be there to fingerprint the children.
