Singers at Ocala West

The Collingsworth Family Singers will be in concert at the Ocala West United Methodist Church on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p. m. Enjoy an evening of family worship, piano, and praise. This very talented musical family has been performing for many years at Ocala West. There is no admission charge, and a love offering will be taken.

Irish Magic comes to Freedom Public Library

Tom O’Carroll, one of Ireland’s finest folk singers, and his wife Debbie, a magician and actress, combine stage magic, songs, poetry and stories for a master work of Irish culture at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6. Kids of all ages are welcome for great fun at Freedom Public Library, 5870 SW 95th St., Ocala. Sponsored by the Friends of Freedom Public Library.

Book sale for animal food bank

A book sale to benefit the Animal Charity Food Bank will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at Winn-Dixie, 8445 SW Highway 200, Ocala.

Chili dinner at Blessed Trinity

The sisters of Blessed Trinity Church will hold their eighth annual chili supper fund raiser on Feb. 7 at Blessed Trinity Church. Funds are used for repairs to the Mother House in Uganda.
The dinner will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Cost is adults $7, children $3. There will be red chili or white chili plus salad and a drink.
The Blessed Trinity Parish Hall is at 5 E. 17th St.

Yard sale at Countryside

A giant yard sale will take place at Countryside Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Feb. 7,  from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
The sixth annual sale will be in Founder’s Hall at the church, 7768 SW State Road 200.
There will be white elephant, linen, boutique clothing, men’s and women’s clothing,  shoes, purses, jewelry, homemade bake sale, tools, toys, small furniture, holiday decorations, books, videos, CDs and much more.
Enjoy a hot dog or chicken sandwich at our cafe.

Friday Forum scheduled

Laura Feldman, Washington-based grassroots organizer for the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) , will address the Feb. 13 Friday Forum of Marion County when the nonpartisan monthly speaker/luncheon group meets at 11:30 a.m. at Buffet City, State Road 200 at MLK Jr. Blvd. in Ocala.
Ms. Feldman's presentation is entitled “Income Security and Equality for Women.” It will highlight an initiative to fulfill Eleanor Roosevelt's hope to ensure equality and security for women in retirement. The former teacher and long-time activist also will discuss the status of the proposed Social Security 2100 Act and the NCPSSM's recommendations for keeping the social programs strong and effective for current and future generations.
Moderater for this program will be Ocala native Mary Savage who staffs the NCPSSM office in Gainesville.
The Friday Forum which meets on the second Friday of each month is open to all who wish to help build a stronger, more informed community devoted to the common good. There is a $10 fee payable directly to the restaurant which includes the buffet,a drink, tax and tip.

Valentine’s Day dance at St. Jude

The St. Jude Council of the Knights of Columbus 15644 is planning their second Valentine’s Day dance to be held on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. in the St. Jude Parish Hall, 443 Marion Oaks Drive. Mark Trammell to sing

Many long time observers and followers of Gospel Music consider Mark Trammell to be one of the greatest baritone singers of all time. The mission of the Mark Trammell Quartet is to focus on evangelism through the seamless integration of Gospel Music and preaching. They present every aspect of pure gospel music in quartet form. Jazz Society to perform

The Ocala Jazz Society will be performing on Sunday, Feb. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. at VFW Post 4781 across from Oak Run. The band performs on the third Sunday of each month playing Jazz, Big Band, Dixieland and songs from the past.

German American Fasching

The German American Club of Marion County will host Fasching on Sunday, Feb. 15, from 1 to 6 p.m., at the Marion Oaks Community Center. Chuck Wagon Gang to sing

The Chuck Wagon Gang has entered its 75th year of singing the old songs and singing them the way they were taught to be sung.  A simple style and distinctive sound is credited with preserving the legacy of the music so many love. Many of the original songs - standards, classics and most requested - are still being preformed at concerts across America today.  The music continues and the message is pertinent for today.  This is a free concert;  a love offering will be received at Christ’s Church of Marion County at 6:30 p.m.

Lunch at College Road

College Road Baptist Church will have as its entertainment, on Feb. 19 a trio, "Inspired Thru Christ." Come for fellowship and fun. Bring a dish to share. Luncheon is noon. Everyone is welcome and even bring friends.

 Humane Society Wine Auction and Dinner

Tickets are now available for an elegant dinner at the Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club. It will be preceded by a wine and tapas hour with a silent auction, and followed by an exclusive wine auction, featuring rare and vintage bottles of wine from private collections and famous vineyards. In addition, lavish locally hosted dinners, unique vacation trips and a several surprises will be available to compliment the wine offerings.
Date is Friday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. at the Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club.
Tickets are $150 per person, attire is Country Casual.
