Two die in OTOW shooting

-A A +A

A possible murder-suicide in On Top of the World had the community on edge for a while Thursday morning.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies were dispatched to 8747 SW 93rd Place in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered
June Jackson, 60, on her neighbor’s front lawn suffering from a gunshot wound. Jackson was immediately transported to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Deputies secured a perimeter around the residence and the On Top Of the World neighborhood and, through investigative leads, developed Clifton Erhardt, 56,  as a possible suspect.
Erhardt was not seen leaving the home after the shooting, leading detectives to believe that there was a strong possibility that Erhardt was still inside. MCSO SWAT team members, the Crisis Negotiations Team, the Bomb Squad, Major Crimes and the Aviation Unit responded to the location in an effort to determine if Erhardt was still there.
The Bomb Squad’s robot made entry to the home and, by using the cameras on the robot, deputies discovered that Erhardt was dead inside the residence. Detectives are still investigating whether Erhardt’s wound was self-inflicted.
Eventually, the Sheriff’s Office put out an announcement that the situation was “de-escalated.” Originally, they had urged that residents remain inside.
From the preliminary investigation, it appears that Jackson and Erhardt were involved in a dating relationship. The motivation behind the shooting is still being investigated by Major Crimes.
