On July 9, a green pick up truck was seen “straddling” the white line on U.S. 40 and was spotted weaving in and out of the middle lane, according to a sheriff’s report.

When the truck was stopped, the driver smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes. He also did not have a valid Florida driver’s license and instead handed the deputy his Mexican identification card.

He was asked to perform several field sobriety tests and was later arrested.

Jorge Alejandro Gonzalez, 22, of Ocala, was charged with driving under the influence and no valid driver’s license. He was taken to the Marion County Jail.

His breath test had results of .126 and .129.

Man robbed in broad daylight

On June 7 at approximately 2:52 p.m., a customer of the 103rd Street Plaza was robbed in the parking lot. He was standing next to his vehicle when a gold four-door sedan with three men pulled up next to him.

A man in the passenger seat got out and asked him for directions to U.S. 27. When he began to give the directions, he was cut off by the suspect and asked to write the instructions down.

As he began to write them down, the suspect snatched the gold necklace hanging around his neck and got back into the vehicle, according to a sheriff’s report. The vehicle then sped out of the parking lot heading toward S.W. 103rd Street Road.

The suspects got away with the man’s $80 Miami Dolphin pendant, but failed to get the gold chain it was hanging on. During the incident, the victim reached up to stop the suspect from taking his chain.

About an hour or so after the incident a State Farm Insurance employee heard a car alarm going off behind Steeplechase Plaza, across the street from the 103 Street Plaza. When she realized what the noise was, she went out the back of her office and discovered her front passenger window was smashed out, according to sheriff’s report. Though nothing was missing from the 2009 Toyota, the window is estimated to cost $292 to replace.

Man arrested for DUI

When a sheriff’s deputy noticed a 2001 tan Buick go off the road into a ditch and then back on the road, the vehicle was stopped a short time later on Southwest 80th Avenue.

The deputy could smell a strong alcohol odor coming from the driver, who had bloodshot, watery eyes, according to a sheriff’s report. After performing several field sobriety tests, he was arrested.

On July 4, Adrian Jermaine Gaines, 29, of Dunnellon, was charged with driving under the influence. He was taken to the Marion County Jail. He agreed to take a breath test, which had a result of .155 and .155.

Woman hears noises in her home

As she came into her Southwest 108th Lane home through the garage on July 3, around 9:30 p.m. she heard a knocking noise on a rear window. She contacted law enforcement.

Deputies found a window cracked opened and bent screen.

When she went inside, she discovered the bedroom door was closed, which is usually left open.

A window was found cracked open, a screen frame was bent and a silver JVC DVD/VCR combination, which was valued at $140, was missing.

The incident report said it appeared the victim had interrupted the suspects and they escaped through the bedroom window.

Pool pump, filter stolen from Sun Valley

On July 3, a maintenance worker with the Whittaker Company arrived to work at a residence on Southwest 102 Lane Road and noticed the pool pump and filter were missing from the side of the building, according to a sheriff’s report.

The items were valued at $630.
