Don't forget mom

By Jan Liberio

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13. Whether you buy or make your mother a card, get her a bouquet of flowers, box of candy or maybe a nice visit, it will be appreciated by her. Also Armed Forces day is May 19 and Memorial Day is observed on May 28.

Feature for this month
Since this will be my last feature I have chosen a unique pair. They are Mandy and Nancy Dennis. Nancy Dennis was born in Nanticoke, Pa. She came to Spruce Creek North with her parents in 1989. Her dad passed away in 1996 and her mom in 2004. She remained in that home ever since. She has a daughter, Debby, in North Carolina and a son, David, in Pennsylvania.
Nancy is a registered nurse and works at Ocala West United Methodist Church.
After her mom passed away Nancy decided to get a puppy. She chose a Maltese who was born almost 8 years ago and was named Mandy. When she got this puppy she never realized what a treasure she had found. Mandy became a registered therapy and service dog. She travels with Nancy to Munroe Hospital, TimberRidge rehab, assisted living, Hospice, plus many private homes. So they are always together. One remarkable incident happened when they visited a man who had never spoken a word. Before the visit was over, the man spoke a few words to Mandy.
Nancy has been writing some very interesting health articles for the SCN newsletter. They are very informative and the residents are enjoying them. She is one talented lady.
Mandy has brought so much happiness to so many people. I am not sure who is the lucky “lady,” Mandy or Nancy? I think it is a little bit of both.

Social Updates

The April Showers dance was held April 21 with entertainment by Gail.
The crowd seemed to have a good time. This is the last dance until the fall.
The SCN ice cream social was April 29 and looks like there was tons of ice cream. The next and last event will be the Memorial Day Picnic May 28. At this annual picnic there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, and side dishes plus beverages. Time is 12:30 and entertainment of course. Tickets are required for this picnic. They will be sold May 22 and 23 at the Clubhouse from 1 to 2 p.m. More information is on the SCN bulletin board. Thanks to Cindy Hutchins for all this news.

Good-bye to SCN ladies
A memorial was held for Rose Seale who passed away last month.
Also Sadie Horton passed away Easter Sunday. Sadie would have been 100 years old on May 19. Our condolences go to all their families and friends.

A friend from On Top of the World sent me this article that was in their paper;

Animals
This time of the year the weather is beautiful and many residents are taking advantage of it and also letting their canine companions enjoy it too. Please keep in mind though that if you are in a backyard that is not fenced or out walking your dog, it must be on a leash according to the Marion County Leash Ordinance. We ask that you keep your pet away from neighboring houses and lawns.
We would hope that all pet owners are courteous enough to do this.
A special thank you to John Delaney of Oak Run who sent me a very much appreciated letter. Thank you John!
Also thanks go to Betty Testa for letting me know about Mandy and Nancy!
Well folks as they say, that’s all she wrote. Sorry to end writing this column and am sure I will miss it.
Take care, Jan.
