Pancake Breakfast

Breakfast, along with the fellowship of friends and neighbors, is yours for the sum of $3 at the Pancake Breakfast tomorrow, Feb. 21. Not only is the food fine, but one can catch up on the various activities people are doing.

Who is going to win the $25 Walmart gift card this time? Come to the Oasis from 7:30 to 10 a.m., it could be you.

Thank you, Russ and Julie Hoyt, for your dedication to the wellbeing and full tummies of the Palm Cay residents who attend the monthly breakfast.

Military Appreciation

Days at Disney

This is a note to all of our residents who have retired from one of the branches of the armed forces. From now until Dec. 23, you are eligible for a free ticket good for five visits to Disney World.

In addition, the honored servicemen and women can also get special rates for their spouses and friends when they apply at the Disney Welcome Center near the gate or at the Armed Forces Resort (Shades of Green) at Disney. If you have a son or daughter on active duty, inform them of Disney’s salute to our military men and women.

Special thanks to Cal Goude for bringing this information to my attention. More information can be found at the Disney World Web site.

Republican Club

On Feb. 12, the Palm Cay Republican Club was honored to host John Konkus, district director for Congressman Cliff Stearns. Konkus told the audience that Mr. Stearns arrived in Ocala from Massachusetts. He had purchased a hotel here and also owned several restaurants.

He was very involved in the business of Ocala and had joined many organizations. He was approached by the mayor of Ocala to run for the congressional seat of John Mills some years back, and won that election.

He has been steadfast in his conservative views and belief in the Second Amendment. As an Air Force captain, the welfare of the men and women fighting to keep this country free and for those who have served before, Stearns is very active on the Veteran’s Affairs Committee among others, and has been instrumental in moving forward the VA Outpatient Clinic in The Villages, some 95,000 sq. ft., with an entire wing devoted to women vets.

Other VA clinics Stearns has actively been involved with are the Ocala Outpatient Clinic at the Cascades, Eye and Ear Specialty Clinic in Ocala and the Leesburg VA Outpatient Clinic. Mr. Stearns’ congressional district is comprised of eight counties, of which Marion County is one of the largest.

He has about 20 town hall meetings a year and is always available to help cut the red tape and assist his constituents with their problems.

On a personal note, this writer contacted Mr. Stearns office with a problem during her naturalization process, and within a week the problem was resolved.

There are three offices to handle the workload of 800,000 constituents; Orange Park, Gainesville and Ocala. A small staff of eight in the office and three outreach case workers get the job done.

The campaign headquarters phone is 352-236-2455 and the District Congressional office number is 352-351-8777.

Community Miscellany

There is lots of activity around the Oasis. Have you been to bingo, where new equipment has been installed?

The craft room is alive and well with members creating all sorts of handwork in various mediums. Table tennis, billiards and the exercise room along with line dancing, clogging and aerobics are keeping residents occupied and active.

Outdoors activity from biking to swimming is evident, and there were even people sunbathing around the pool a few days ago, now that the warm weather has returned for a while. Life is good in Palm Cay.

Welcome to the Williams family, who joined Palm Cay in January. Also, happy birthday to Betty Boyle and Susie Wyatt, and any other residents celebrating a February birthday, and best wishes to those celebrating anniversaries this month as well.

It is hoped that Valentine’s Day was spent with loved ones or friends … it is a blessed feeling to share.

“See to it that you really do love each other warmly, with all your hearts.” (1 Peter, Chapter 1, verse 22.)

Until next time …

There is box in the library at the Oasis for residents to place their newsy tidbits, group activity information, travels, etc. Fiona Blair is listed in the Palm Cay directory or e-mail to fiona-blair@hotmail.com.
