Several new faces join the community

-A A +A
By Fiona Blair

Hello Readers: Are you enjoying yourselves? There is so much to do here, it is hoped the residents of Palm Cay are participating and meeting new friends and neighbors. There have been several new faces who have joined the Palm Cay family recently and we welcome them and hope they have settled in.

NOTICE: Please do not throw cigarettes from the car window – take heed from the California fires. We had an incident on our boulevard on Friday, a brush fire started from unknown causes, but it is suspected that someone threw a cigarette from the car window. With the ground so very dry, extra caution needs to be taken. Thank you.

Pancake Breakfast

Join in the fun at the Oasis on Saturday, May 16, for our Pancake Breakfast. Always a delight to see new faces, and for just $3 a wonderful feast, cooked by chefs extraordinaire, of scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee or tea is presented to you by our wonderful neighbors in the guise of wait-staff! Thank you so much to all for giving your time.

Wednesday Night Social

If you enjoy barber shop style singing, then here is the event for you …  our Wednesday Night Social on May 20 features the “Summer Springs Chorus,” the only female chorus of this type in the tri-county area of Marion, Sumter and Lake. Come to the Oasis at 7p.m. with $2 in hand and enjoy a wonderful evening.

Memorial Day observed

Ginnie Chipman has put together this program on Monday, May 25. If you need further information, her phone number is in the directory. Tickets at $8 for Palm Cay residents, and $9 for guests, are on sale at the Pancake Breakfast on May 16. Sonny’s BBQ will provide lunch. A program in honor of those for whom this day is observed, is still being finalized. Let us remember them always for their ultimate sacrifice to keep this country free and let it remain so. God bless our military servicemen and women who still stand in harm’s way.

Bocce Luncheon

A wonderful time was had at the Bocce Luncheon … Suzie Wyatt took several pictures. A good time was had by all!

The Quilters

The Palm Cay Quilters had put in a request for the donation of a sewing machine so that the members would not have to drag sewing machines from home all the time. Their request was answered with not only the donation of one machine, but five of them. They were very grateful and will send notes to each of the donors.

Republican Club

The May meeting was canceled. The June meeting will be June 11 at 7 p.m. at the Oasis. The speaker will be announced shortly. Refreshments are always served.

Saying goodbye

Dear Readers – this will be the last column written by this writer. For the past twelve months of writing this column, this writer has received many words of encouragement and an abundance of input not only from the editor of the Citizen, but also from various Palm Cay residents. It is now time to pass the gauntlet as this writer’s life undertakes a wonderful and new exciting journey. It has been a great honor to represent the Palm Cay community. Thank you.
