Read my lips: More taxes coming for families

-A A +A
By Robert E. Beckner

On June 26, 2009, the House of Representatives passed HR 2454 known as the Waxman-Markey bill. The stated purpose of this bill was to slow down global warming by reducing carbon dioxides and other greenhouse gas emission. The bill was really an energy tax in disguise. At the heart of the bill was the Cap and Trade Scheme, that would severely limit the amount of energy derived from the three carbon-dioxide fuels of coal, oil and natural gas which are the sources of U.S. energy, some 80 percent, because they are the least expensive fuels available. The bill works by inflicting economic pain on the public.

The bill’s real purpose is to begin cutting our energy sources in 2012 by 17 percent below a 2005 baseline and as the years go by the amount of emissions would grow to 42 percent by 2020. It works by raising the costs so high that business and individuals are forced to use less of it. This would cause profound changes in many sectors of the economy, including electric power generation, agriculture, manufacturing and construction. The bill would have zero effect on our climate; its real purpose is to raise your taxes, truly a national energy tax. All who voted for the tax in the House will have created a bureaucratic nightmare that would cause a large loss of jobs, weaken our economy and depress real estate prices even more and help American firms to leave the country. The tax is on all companies, not just a fewand taxes would rise accordingly by how much above the cap the government says they can use. The overall emission allowed can be increased by the company’s purchase of “pollution permits” which they can trade off with companies not reaching the government set limits.

The cost of these permits obviously will be passed on to you, the consumer, in the form of a tax. It is estimated your electric rates will increase by 90 percent! Your auto fuel is estimated to rise to an area up to $7 per gallon.

Your overall tax yearly increase, per family, will be approximately $1,600 to $3,200 per year. As far back as Jan. 27, 2008, while running for President, he said, “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity prices would necessarily skyrocket!

The Democratic Congress and the president want you to use less energy and allow otherwise alternative fuels, such as wind and solar power to enter the market. You surely are aware that these sources of power are what the president is pushing. These fuels are not fully developed or working as needed to be fulfilling, and their costs are far in excess of our 50 percent coal costs. We will have to continue to import oil for years from our Muslim and Arab enemies and pay their high prices, also for natural gas, since the president won’t “allow” our oil and gas companies to drill offshore or in our western mountains or far North Alaska or to even consider building much needed nuclear plants (France gets 75 percent of their total energy from cheap nuclear fuel, have now for many years and no accidents!) What’s the true reason for his refusal to act on drilling?

It has been stated that many politicians and those in the elite groups have invested heavily in the wind and solar stocks. This would cause a colossal transfer of wealth from consumers to big business.

These socalled “green” companies would stand to make billions if the bill can now pass in the Senate. It only passed by 219-212 in the House, including two Democrats that voted yes from Florida, Corrine Brown (D) and Alan Grayson (D). Two Florida Republicans both voted “no” against the bill, Ginny Brown-Waite and Cliff Stearns. Remember these two that voted “yes’ when election comes around in November 2010.

As expected from the democrats, they never play anything straight. To be sure the bill passes the House, they added something for everyone, compromises they call it. They used carve outs, concessions and out and out gifts designed to win votes of wavering lawmakers and the support of powerful industries.

The dealmaking continued right up until the final minute. Rep. Henry Waxman doled out billions on the House floor to secure the final votes needed for passage. A small prize of $50 million dollars; a hurricane research center in Florida to Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Orlando) who also represents parts of Marion County, and huge payments in the billions to agriculture and forestry interests. Even national gas drillers’ refineries, universities and real estate agents all got in on the action. The utilities got tens of billions of concessions so they could continue to operate and build coal burning power plants without shouldering new costs. They also received tens of billions of dollars worth of free pollution permits. Other much wanted items were also passed out, such as a weakening of the national mandate for renewable energy. This source, i.e. The New York Times, dated 7/1/09. You wonder how our president feels now that his bill was passed in the House and without a doubt, if passed in the Senate he will be responsible for the “biggest tax in American history.” This bill, after the president’s promise in January 2008, when he said, “because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power, plants, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations. This will cost money … they will pass that money (taxes) on to the consumers.”

It’s clear the president wasn’t thinking of the No. 1 Bush’s statement, “Read my lips, no new taxes,” that cost him his re-election bid. Now on top of all this, the president had promised “I pledge no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase.” “Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not any of your taxes! Yet, he knew he was lying to the American public – where everyone, 100 percent would be taxed heavily, right in the middle of a global economic crises.

This just shows that the president does not care what this plan of his or any of his plans cost, he is only interested in the power he would have to control your lives. Next up is his National Health Care – wait and see how he raises taxes to pay for that – another column will help you see for yourself.

In a desperate attempt to get this “energy tax bill” passed in the House, Congress reverted to a dishonest or corrupt practice of withholding a White House Global Warming Report that withheld vital correct information from the public, it stated the earth’s temperature, droughts, downpours were the result of carbon for serious effects, was much worse than it was, in reality the earth has in fact been cooling. This was just plain old lying to the country.

Giving false testimony is a criminal practice –  but apparently not when the White House or Congress is involved. All this just shows the type of people we have currently running our country right into the ground. If you haven’t yet, pick up your telephone, get involved, show your anger and outrage to your two Senators, who work for you. Tell them to stop this madness by voting

against the Energy Tax bill, the Green Energy bill, Cap and Trade, the Waxman-Markey bill or whatever they might be calling it now – they’ll do anything to confuse the public. Here are two toll free numbers, 1-877-851-6437 or 1-866-220-0044 or direct to 1-202-225-3121; ask for your Senator’s office (Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez) or even President Obama’s office 1-202-456-1111; 1-202-456-1414 and express your outrage and state the obvious incompetence in wasting tax dollars to increase energy costs.
