School has new building on 200

By Jim Clark

The new Rasmussen College campus conducted its ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday in conjunction with the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce.

School and government officials toured the campus on State Road 200, in front of West Marion Hospital, and then were entertained under a tent in front of the facility.

Pete Beasley, campus director, welcomed the crowd to the school library, and spoke of the school’s commitment to the community. Later he led the cutting of the ribbon in the main hallway of the building.

County Commissioner Kathy Bryant noted that “Rasmussen’s students are tomorrow’s workforce.” She added, “I encourage all students to embrace local employers.” She thanked the school for its local involvement and closed by saying, “What a great day!”

Ocala Mayor Randy Ewers followed and said he was “very proud from the city’s perspective.” He praised the school for “strengthening minds to become more agile.”

Jaye Baillie, secretary of the Chamber, said, “Every time we have a new building like this, we raise the bar.”

The final speaker was Genidia Moise, an admittedly nervous student who had come here from Michigan, but who spoke well and praised the school. “It offers us a sanctuary. As students, we are really blessed.

“I have found that help is only a question away.”

She is taking paralegal studies and hopes to be an attorney “some day.”
