Property appraiser to visit the Oasis

-A A +A
By Fiona Blair

Hello readers: Villie Smith and his staff from the Property Appraisers Office will visit the Oasis on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. New residents would be advised to come down to discuss their needs in filing for homestead exemption and tangible personal property.

Information needed to file is available at the clubhouse or for more information, call 368-8315 for exemption questions, and 368-8321 for personal property questions.

Crystal Gage Concert

Have you purchased your tickets for the Crystal Gage concert? This young lady will come to Palm Cay on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. She is a country music performer from Windsor, Ontario, Canada and has performed all over the country.

We thank Jim Powell and Nancy Brenner for bringing Ms. Gage to us. Tickets are $7. For more information, get in touch with Jim whose number is in the Palm Cay directory.

Potluck Social

Sally Neuberger, our new chairperson, will host the Potluck Social on Saturday, Jan. 31, due to the Crystal Gage concert falling on the third Saturday. In February we go back to normal the third Saturday.

The $1 meat dish this time is sausage and peppers, and dessert is furnished. Bring a dish to pass which will feed 4 to 6 people. Share in the fun and conversation with new residents and familiar faces as we gather together on the first social of the New Year.

Pancake Breakfast

The winner of the January Walmart gift card is Yvette Schauer. The Pancake Breakfast is on the third Saturday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. It is a great way to fellowship with old friends and meet new ones while filling up the tummy with eggs, sausage, pancakes, juice and coffee. Tickets are $3.

If you have a birthday or anniversary, just let the ticket taker know and you will be the recipient of a cupcake and a serenade from the Palm Cay songbirds.

A number of birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated. Birthday wishes go to Bill Wood, Hazel Goude, George Largent, Grace Palka, Grace Matheson, Bill Davis, Sandi Tampkin and Jane Grames, and Abe, Annette and Ann.

Anniversary congratulations go to John and Alyce Grillo, and Tom and Ann Weeks.

Football Anyone?

Excitement fills the air ... you can hear a pin drop as quarterback Tim Tebow drops back ... finds a receiver and makes the connection. Touchdown! Suddenly the room turns from one of quiet tension to one of exuberant excitement.

Palm Cay football fans decided to leave their quiet living rooms and get together at the Oasis for an evening of football. And what better game to watch than our own Florida Gators playing No. 1 Oklahoma. If you missed the game ... Oklahoma is no longer No. 1.

Thanks to all the residents who joined in the fun ... lets do it again soon.

Super Bowl anyone?

Super Bowl Party

The football season is coming to an end. Wives will again find their husbands busy on those “honey do lists,” but not until after Feb. 1, when the top AFC and NFC teams come together and determine who is worthy of winning the prestigious Super Bowl ring for 2009.

Enjoy the thrill of the big game on the large screen at the Oasis. The party begins at 6 p.m. and kick off is scheduled for 6:28. Bring a snack ... and BYOB has been approved. See you at the Super Bowl party.

The Frog Caper

This writer wishes to thank Mr. and Mrs. Johnson who, by sheer chance, were driving their golf cart on S.W. 107th and saw this writer parked on the side of the road with car doors open. She was squeamishly and madly trying to disengage a fair-sized frog who had taken possession of the dashboard.

Mr. Johnson calmly collected Mr. Froggy and set him down on the ground, where he proceeded to hop away to fairer pastures or greener dashboards. Whew!

That’s what you get when you leave your windows open for too long. Thank you so much for the rescue.

New News Forms

There are new forms available in the Palm Cay Library for residents, chairpersons, or anyone to use with regard to events or activities they would like to promote in the Citizen. Information needs to be in this writer’s hands at least two weeks prior to the event.

Suggestions for a Person of the Month are now being accepted. There are so many fascinating stories among our residents which would be wonderful to share with the Citizen readers.

Apology

This writer must apologize for the lack of the Palm Cay column in last week’s Citizen. There was a malfunction in e-mailing the piece to the office and it landed in cyberspace somewhere, never to be found again. Thank you for your understanding.

A smile costs nothing but gives much. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. Smile often, love much.

Until next time …

There is box in the library at the Oasis for residents to place their newsy tidbits, group activity information, travels, etc. Fiona Blair is listed in the Palm Cay directory or e-mail to fiona-blair@hotmail.com.
