Pearl Harbor information 05-13-2011

Letter to the editor by Ebbon Johnson

As a reader who loves history, I continued reading your writer’s history lesson on “The Attack on Pearl Harbor.” There apparently was much research done for the article. I say that because the history lesson is filled with almost minute details about the events in time leading up to, and the actual attack. But I find it a little strange, why not a word about the probable foreknowledge of the American government, that the attack was imminent. There are just too many books and articles that have been written over time pertaining to the government’s foreknowledge, and their refusal to warn the Pearl Harbor’s commanders, Rear Adm. Kimmel, Naval Commander, and Gen. Walter C. Scott, Army Commander, for it not to be mentioned in any article written today regarding that attack.

Maybe it was ignored because most mainstream historians say there never was a plot. But revisionists long have argued that the attack was anticipated in Washington. Dissident revisionists argue that Pearl Harbor, while horrible, did what Roosevelt wanted: It galvanized Americans and drove the country into World War II against the Axis powers.  Furthermore, if the information on the foreknowledge is correct, then we have the president of the United States, Roosevelt, guilty of sacrificing over 2,400 American seamen’s lives in order to declare a war that continued to take American lives for years. I think that this additional information is just too important, as a part of history, for people not to be made aware of it.

One such book about the probable foreknowledge is “Day of Deceit, The Truth about FDR and Pearl Harbor,” Written by Robert B. Stinnett, a World War II veteran.

The book is published by the Free Press, an imprint of the New York publisher Simon & Schuster. It is based on thousands of long secret American intercepts of Japanese fleet radio messages that he obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. The documents indicate America did know an attack was coming.
