Performing Arts Company
PACOR has a newcomer in the cast of “The Odd Couple.” Marlena Yaich is making her debut in the role of “Silvie.” The Yaichs moved to Oak Run in 2005 after snow birding between Delaware and Tarpon Springs, having spent most of their lives in southeastern Pennsylvania where they raised four children and parlayed them into 10 active grandchildren. Marlena’s husband Lou will be getting his feet wet in show biz also taking on the job of stage manager. After spending time golfing, playing cards and volunteering, Marlena felt she needed to expand her horizons and joined Little Theatre. Her prior experience was a bit part in “HMS Pinafore.” She only sought the experience of auditioning and was shocked and pleased to be chosen for the part.
Remaining ticket sales in January are at the pancake breakfast on the 26th from 8 to 10 a.m. and at the movie that evening from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Those of you who have attended past dinner theatre nights know it to be a premier event here in Oak Run. This year there will be a relaxing dinner of prime rib and chicken romano and all the fixings followed by a great show. Eighteen of the 25 tables have been sold out and Shari Weber (352-854-0116) awaits your call to fill out the few remaining tables as does Linda Noel (352-873-9908) for all other shows. The Italian American Club wishes to thank its departing officers for the outstanding work they did on behalf of the club for the past two years. President Vinnie Procaccini and his wife Karen, along with John and Ann Gariboldi, Eileen Leo, and Richie and Joan Solito, did a fantastic job arranging and hosting the club’s various parties and events. Newly elected president John Casabianca and his committee of officers will begin the new year with a Valentine’s Day party for members only, on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Tickets sales for this event will be on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Cost is $10 per person paid by check only. Further details will be announced in a flyer and on channel 12 . The second sale date for the Sept.-Oct. Mediterranean Cruise will be on Jan. 31. Contact Bob and Cindy Kocher for details.
We are working on our spring-summer travel brochure. Here are some selected summer trips we have lined up. Look for the brochure and sale dates in March. Our hosts will be clamoring to take you on these trips and others at our hosts meeting on Feb. 14. Sale dates will be announced after this meeting.
July 20 at Ed Fletcher’s Dinner Theatre we’ll see ”Cooking with Gus.” Gussie is a famous food critic who wants to do a TV show. Her husband says no but she goes ahead only to find out she has stage fright. Taping the shows turns in to a comic nightmare ending with a food fight.
July 28 at Show Palace will be ”Barefoot in the Park,” a Neil Simon favorite about a young couple of newlyweds making their first home in New York City in 1963.
Aug. 20 at the David A Straz, Jr. Center in Tampa you will be entertained by “Forever Plaid,” a toe-tapping, side-slapping musical and comedy featuring a parade of your favorite tunes.
We are planning a Thanksgiving Caribbean cruise for you to look forward to. It will be on Royal Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale to such ports as St. Kitts and other islands. Look for the brochure details.

The game is on Sunday, Feb. 3, and we will be cheering every play in the Orchid Club. Only Oak Run residents and their guests are allowed to attend. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and we will have the big screen along with four TV monitors on the sides. We will provide beer, soda, snacks, coffee, tea and dessert, but as always you can bring the beverage of your choice and /or your own snacks. Let’s continue the tradition with good food, good friends and a great game. Get your friends together and get your tickets. Garden Club
All members and Oak Run Residents are invited to our Garden Club meeting in February. It is Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 9 a.m. in the Orchid Club. Our refreshment committee is starting our meeting with delicious goodies. Our business meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. and our program this month is about “Attracting Birds to Your Backyard” by Helen Ogren, a Master Gardener. I know I derive a lot of pleasure from watching the colorful variety of birds at my feeder and enjoyed watching a flock of robins back in December. As always we will have our plant raffle, 50-50 raffle and Peggy Cornish’s Caring and Sharing Plant Table with plants for sale.
Mark Saturday, March 16, on your calendar for our plant sale at the Orchid Club. This will be St. Patrick’s Day weekend and we will have vendors outside in the parking lot and inside the club. Vendors will be selling plants, shrubs, produce, plant containers, baked goods and honey as well as many other items. We will be selling refreshments. The Marion County Sheriff’s Bagpipers will be here again to entertain us. If you are a vendor and wish to participate please let us know. Tables are $15 per table. Remember the proceeds go to our endowed scholarship fund at CCF in the field of horticulture. Thanks for your support.

Irish American Club
Tickets for the St. Patty’s dance will be sold on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Orchid Club lobby between 9 and 11 a.m. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for guests. 2013 dues will also be collected at that time at $6 per person. Our dance will be held on Thursday, March 14, at the Palm Grove Club. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The menu will be corned beef and cabbage, stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, carrots, dessert and coffee. Soda will be served. You may bring other beverages if you desire.
The number of new joins/renewals, as well as the number of tickets purchased, will determine the future of our club. Remember that we are open to all fun loving Oak Run residents, Irish or not, but we must have enough members attending functions in order to continue. We hope a decision to discontinue is not forced on us, and we look forward to seeing you at future functions.
