News from the ‘North’ creek

-A A +A
By Jan Liberio

Spruce Creek North has been without a reporter for a few years, so hopefully I can fill the job. First of all, where is Spruce Creek North?

With all the “Spruce Creeks” in the area it is difficult to remember where each one is located.

We, at Spruce Creek North, are bordered by Oak Run, Cherrywood and Marco Polo Village. Sounds to me like we are in very good company. Our main entrance is right off 103rd Street Road.

Our community is basically small but we have many activities to keep us busy.

Sports activities include shuffleboard, horseshoe pitching and bocci ball. Men’s billiards are played four to five times a week with some of the men traveling to other complexes to compete.

Indoor activities include bridge, poker, skip bo, bunco and mah-jongg. These clubs are all open to residents and non-residents and they need new people.

Almost forgot, Bingo is every Tuesday night.

Floor exercise is held in the fall and winter. Water exercise is in the summer in our beautiful swimming pool.

At the present time line dancing is being offered to beginners every Tuesday morning at no charge.

If you want or need more exercise there is an exercise room at the Clubhouse. There are many exercise machines to choose from. There is also a scale to check on your progress.

The Social Committee is always putting on something interesting every month. They also organize the dances and are always looking forward to more people attending these functions.

Potlucks, picnics, Octoberfests, and holiday parties continue year round.

The Craft Club meets every Wednesday at 9 a.m. Bring your new ideas. Bible study is Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Other clubs available are Quilting, Bicycle, Bowling, Painting. Genealogy and Golf.

The Singles Club is very active with many nice tours and outings. Everyone is welcome.

Crime Watch is on duty every day plus security guards all night.

Yearly community garage sales are a great time to find new treasures and get rid of your old ones.

Flu shots are offered every year right at our Clubhouse.

Pancake People

An enjoyable event that we all look forward to is the monthly pancake breakfast. All of the cooking of pancakes, French toast, sausages, coffee and juice is headed by Norm Simard and his wife, Marge, and a wonderful crew.

They are a bunch of very hardworking people giving of their time and energy. Pancake Day is the last Saturday of every month with the exception of December.

The next pancake breakfast is Saturday, Nov. 29, and the cost is $2.50.

There are two “Pancake People” missing from the picture we have this month; Sue Pelton and Len Dochus. I hope to have a picture of all our clubs, one by one, in future columns.

Christmas Dinner

The next big event for Spruce Creek North will be our Christmas dinner dance. Tickets will go sale Dec. 3 and 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. at our Clubhouse.

The date for this gala event is Dec. 13. Norm Simard is again our head chef. It should be a wonderful night.

If I missed something please let me know and I can add it to the next column. I hope to keep you informed on up and coming events so everyone will get a chance to attend something of their choice.

This is all new to me folks … so please help by sending me some news.
