Munroe to expand at TimberRidge

-A A +A

Munroe Regional Medical Center (MRMC) filed a letter of intent with the Agency for Health Care Administration yesterday to apply for a certificate of need (CON) to build a second acute care hospital of up to 100 beds on the TimberRidge Emergency Center campus at 9521 SW State Road 200, Ocala, 34481. The proposed hospital is in addition to ongoing plans for the main campus.

“We continuously consider how to serve our community by providing access points for patients, enhancing their experience, and supporting our caregivers in their work to deliver high quality, personalized care,” said Bob Moore, MRMC chief executive officer. “The addition of the TimberRidge campus is an investment in access to medical services for western Marion County and will offer a higher level of care where a growing number of residents live.”

MRMC has conducted research that identified a need for beds in western Marion County, resulting from the growth of On Top of the World, Oak Run and other retirement communities. If approved, the TimberRidge facility will offer comprehensive services including endoscopy, cardiac cath lab, surgery, critical care, intermediate care, a medical/surgical unit and orthopedics with room for additional services in the future. MRMC already serves the area through TimberRidge Emergency Center that sees more than 35,000 patients each year.

“Even with our freestanding emergency department in the area, MRMC continues to treat a high volume of patients from the western part of the county,” said Frank Fraunfelter, MD, MRMC emergency department medical director. “Having a hospital nearby means residents will have access to advanced treatments close to home, EMS will have to transfer fewer patients and our main campus will be less crowded, all of which will lead to better outcomes for patients.”

Planned renovations and expansions of some of MRMC’s most highly utilized services at the main campus continue. MRMC is pleased to report progress in several areas:

•           Phase 1: Consolidation of MRI and imaging areas will update and enhance the experience of patients who need these services. Work is underway and expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2017.

•           Phase 2: Renovations to labor and deliver and OB observation as well as the addition of a new 12-bed Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) will offer more comfort and resources to families so they can stay close to home. The design phase is complete with an expected construction finish date in end of the third quarter next year.

•           Phase 3: The emergency department will increase to 40 private patient care rooms, and improve access to other hospital services like surgery, cath lab and imaging. Work is expected to be complete in late 2018.

If the CON for the TimberRidge hospital is approved, design and construction of the TimberRidge campus could begin as early as fall 2017 with a projected completion date in 2020. To learn more, please visit www.munroeregional.com.
