A challenge to

free speech

“Disagreeing with reasons to love Israel” Is a noble article by Janis Lentz. I am glad she exercised her free speech and did not remain silent. However, it would be interesting to know, if she knows that her free speech, might be being monitored? Also, in the very near future expressing such thoughts as this could be considered committing a crime.

On Oct. 16, 2004, President George W. Bush signed the Israel Lobby’s bill, the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act. This legislation requires the U.S. Department of State to monitor anti-Semitism world- wide.

To monitor anti-Semitism, it has to be defined. What is the definition? Basically, as defined by the Israel Lobby and Abe Foxman, it boils down to any criticism of Israel or Jews.

Being monitored and being arrested for committing a crime are two entirely different circumstances. If the Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 is passed, it will become a crime for any American to tell the truth about Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and theft of their lands.

It will be a crime to report the extraordinary influence of the Israel Lobby on the White House and Congress, such as the AIPAC-written resolutions praising Israel for its war crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza that were endorsed by 100 per cent of the U.S. Senate and 99 per cent of the House of Representatives, while the rest of the world condemned Israel for its barbarity.

It will become a crime to note the disproportionate representation of Jews in the media, finance, and foreign policy.

In other words, it means the end of free speech, free inquiry, and the First Amendment to the Constitution. Any facts or truths that cast aspersion upon Israel will simply be banned.

Criminalizing criticism of Israel destroys any hope of America having an independent foreign policy in the Middle East that serves American rather than Israeli interests. It eliminates any prospect of Americans escaping from their enculturation with Israeli propaganda.

Many Americans have been brainwashed by the propaganda that Palestinians are terrorists who threaten innocent Israel. These Americans will see the censorship as merely part of the necessary war on terror. They will accept the demonization of fellow citizens who report unpalatable facts about Israel and agree that such people should be punished for aiding and abetting terrorists.

Most of the preceding information comes from a recent article written by Paul Craig Roberts who was assistant secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration.

Sincerely,

Ebbon Johnson

Auto industry

needs help

We should change the name of Chrysler the automobile maker to Chrysler the bank which will allow them to receive unlimited amounts of bail out money to invest in themselves and increase their salaries and bonuses for upper level management.

American automobile workers should not be held accountable for the design errors of management nor the arrogance and lack of understanding by the CEO’s of what kind of car the American consumer wants in his driveway. Building cars that Americans want should be uppermost in the minds of the auto industry in Detroit along with protecting the workers that made their industry great.

The banks are receiving hundreds of billions of non-accountable bailout money which has disappeared into thin air while our government is making our 100-year-old auto industry beg for the comparable few dollars to keep them afloat.

The auto industry is receiving pocket change in bail-out money compared to their value of providing good jobs for American workers. Why aren’t our elected congressmen concerned about American families.

Economists from the Bush and Obama administrations say and feel that the American automobile industry of Detroit is like the prehistoric dinosaur and should be allowed to become extinct.

Obama has forgotten 9-11

That “Citizen of the World” Obama made a speech in Turkey in which he said something like “religion in America was diversified.”

One can only assume that this county was not founded by Martians from outer space.

One can only presume the pilgrims who came on the Mayflower were not Martians.

Perhaps it was Scheherazade who said to John Alder, “Speak for yourself, John.” Perhaps it was a Martian or an Arab steed riding in the night to warn, “the British are coming.”

Indeed, it is difficult to ascertain just what Martians have contributed to American culture beside movies about space ships with actors wrapped in aluminum foil saying, “We come in peace.”

And now we really must comment on the subject of “lawlessness” which seems to prevail in our world despite the “diversity of religion.”

CEOs walk away from bleeding bankrupt companies with a $20 million dollar bonus.

Illegals get food stamps, free medical care at hospitals and free tuition at universities for their children of whom there are many.

Public officials refrain from paying their taxes but they get promoted anyway.

Somali pirates attack cruise ships, cargo vessels and oil tankers and hold hostages for a million dollar ransom.

The dumb reason for not going after the Somali pirates and blowing their mother ships out of the ocean is “they have no government.” The dumb reason the cargo ships owners don’t arm their vessels is “it costs too much.”

Mexican drug cartels pillage, ravage and burn their own country and move in and take over ours. They have a network of criminals to move the drugs and deliver the goods to every major city in the U.S.A. and Canada. Their efficiency rivals that of Fed. Ex and U.P.S.

In the midst of all of this, Obama is trying to exhume to corpse of “comprehensive immigration reform” or amnesty for 20 million illegals, which got shot down in flames in the Congress last year.

George W. Bush was standing there, pen in hand, waiting to sign the bill which the Congressional switchboard blew up with the millions of phone calls from Americans saying, “no.”

Obama is asking Congress for $83 billion dollars for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. We do have a dim recollection of him saying that he was going to end the war and bring the troops home.

Apparently, Obama wants to do for Afghanistan what George W. Bush did for Iraq.

It took the Russians 10 years to figure out that they were wasting their time in Afghanistan.

If we are really clever, we may end up following the bouncing ball of the Taliban into Pakistan and another lovely war. And that is the really dumb reason why we can’t bring our troops home.

Obama’s White House has released memos revealing torture tactics by the CIA to obtain information from terrorists. He further wants to prosecute those involved. Obviously Obama and his compassionate lefties have forgotten how Americans died on 9-11.

A skewed picture of

the real Israel

Ms. Janis Lentz ends her rage-filled tirade against Israel with the word "sadly." How fitting! Her letter was indeed very sad. Her letter is long on rage and short on facts. She presents a picture of Israel so skewed from reality that one knows hardly how to begin to respond.

Let us imagine that Ms. Lentz was living in San Diego, Calif. and every day, Mexico would lob missiles and rockets into that fair town. Let us further imagine that this went on for two or three years. All business in San Diego had come to a halt as a result of these daily rocket attacks; all children had to live in underground shelters. What would she want her government to do? Lay down and die?

This is precisely the situation in which Israel found itself when she began Operation Cast Lead into Gaza this past winter. After having unilaterally pulled out of Gaza approximately three years ago with not one soldier left behind, after uprooting every Jewish resident from Gaza, after having left intact agricultural infrastructure that was a sheer money maker, Israel found itself being the target of constant rocket attacks for almost three years launched by the terrorist group Hamas. Life in the town of Sderot came to an end. The town had to build an underground park and playground so that its children could play without having to worry about rockets. The attacks from Hamas went on relentlessly, without any Israeli response, probably at the urging of the United States. Finally, Israel had to do what any normal government would do and that is protect its citizens from these kind of attacks, by trying to take out the rocket installations and the terrorists.

Most of the so-called "innocents" for whom Ms. Lentz laments were in fact Hamas terrorists.

In addition, Hamas, in its cowardice, launched rockets within the midst of Gaza’s civilian population where women and children were living. What Ms. Lentz may not know is that the Israeli air force dropped leaflets urging the civilian population in particular buildings to flee so that Israel could take care of the terrorists. What other air force in the world puts itself at risk by telling the enemy exactly where and when it intends to attack? The fact of the matter is that contrary to Ms. Lentz’ fulminations, the Israel armed forces are the most moral in the world.

Ms. Lentz states that when she thinks of Israel, she thinks of "violence and death." Well, think again Ms. Lentz. Israel is a leader in environmental protection, as well as in solar technology.

The list of Israeli contributions to the world would take up pages. And all this in a country that has not been permitted a day of peace since its existence.

Ms. Lentz is upset about United States aid to Israel? Well, just imagine under whose hegemony Jordan and Lebanon would be if not for the threat of Israel’s armed forces. That’s right, Iran and al Qaida. The United States has received a lot from its investment in Israel.

Israel has its flaws like any other nation, but if you really want to hear criticism of Israel, go to Israel! Israeli democracy is vibrant and her politics are feisty and dynamic.

What a marvelous nation tiny Israel is, and we should be proud of our government’s support of Israel.

God bless these United States and God bless the State of Israel!

Respectfully submitted,

Responding to

Sweden vs. Israel

Sweden and Israel, now there is an interesting comparison. Sweden a modern, peaceful, likeable country with friendly neighbors like Norway, and Denmark has never had an enemy since Napoleon in 1805.

Israel prevented invasion by six of her Arab neighbors on the first day of her independence. Again was attacked by the neighbors in 1967 and 1973. In 1956 she fought with the British and French to regain the Suez Canal from incursion by Egypt, a lifeline of commerce for the world, which Egypt attempted to shut down.

To this day Israel is under constant threat both internally and externally, rocket attacks occur daily from Gaza, a territory given freely back to the Palestinians in hope of peace for land and an effort to produce a two state solution. Israel has many times offered land for peace only to be continually rejected.

Now we have Iran promising to wipe Israel off the map or at least sponsor another holocaust.

The writer bemoans the fate of "the poor civilians;" she is correct. We should also include the poor civilians being killed by us in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, in order for us to obtain some form of stability in their region. Unfortunately,  there are collateral consequences, or should we stop, withdraw and accept the results? That is the choice Israel has also. They and we are trying our best to limit the civilian type of tragedy.

What specific advantages a stable, strong, Israel benefits the U.S. we can describe another time, however all countries including ourselves act in our own self interest and we would be foolish to believe U.S. support is only on humanitarian grounds.
