Learn to paint at Debbie’s classes

-A A +A
By Nancy Archer

Have you ever wondered how artists paint such beautiful scenes? Debbie Blackburn can bring out the best in you. She teaches the Bob Ross technique of painting.

This month’s project and the sign-up book are in the Clubhouse. Classes are $35 and unless otherwise posted, include canvases, paints, brushes, and everything you need. Just bring some paper towels and a desire to paint.

Songbird Notes

Do you remember the Coca-Cola commercial, I’d Like to Teach to World to Sing, Anne Murray’s Snowbird or Harry Bellefonte’s Yellow Bird? These are just a few of the songs we are currently singing.

If you can sing in the shower you can come out and sing with your friends at the Clubhouse on Wednesdays at 2 p.m.

Our program at Spruce Creek Preserve this month was appreciated by the Potluck Club. We will be performing at Joy Lutheran Church for a benefit to purchase shoes for homeless or needy children on April 25 at 3 p.m.

New Cherrywood Songbirds would be joyfully accepted, and we are saving a seat just for you. No embarrassing audition; just a desire to sing. For more information, call Aprile at 237-0924 or Edna at 291-8815.

AARP Driver Safety Class

There will be an AARP 55 driver safety class on March 24 and 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $12 AARP members and $15 non-members. For more information, call Geri at 237-1675.

Ladies Luncheon

February brought about 25 women to the Ladies Luncheon. We would like to see more ladies at next month’s luncheon. So mark your calendar for March 11 at noon – and bring a covered dish to share.

Monthly Breakfast

We had a nice turnout for the February breakfast and we had two new volunteers. We welcome your help.

Our next breakfast will be March 14, from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Orange juice, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit cup, coffee or tea, and we will have a toast table. Cost is $3 each.

Tickets are sold by Geri at the office or Christine Archer at Bingo. No tickets at the door since we need an accurate headcount for the breakfast.

Democratic Club

In January it was our great pleasure to welcome Marion County Sheriff Ed Dean to our meeting. He told us that he would be attending President Barack Obama’s inauguration and ball. We wished him good luck and a safe trip to Washington, D.C.

On March 20, we shall be putting together our activities for the coming months with the local and national branches of the Democratic Party. It is going to a busy and exciting time. We need everyone’s input.

Our young people serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan need our support and thanks year-round, so please work with our veterans organizations and our Support Our Soldiers Committee to show our appreciation for their dedication.

We were pleased to present $60 to the SOS committee to help with the cost of shipping supplies to our men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Voter registration cards are available if you want to register or change party affiliation.

The Cherrywood Democratic Club meets monthly on the third Friday at 2 p.m. in the Clubhouse. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Harriet Scarpino at 873-9955.
