Marion Woods retirement community, 1661 S.E. 31st St. S.E. in Ocala, invites local veterans and the general public to a remembrance of the Battle of Iwo Jima on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m.
Iwo Jima, site of the famous flag-raising photo by Joe Rosenthal, was a pivotal one-month battle between the United States and Japan during World War II. February marks the 67th anniversary.
Complimentary refreshments will be provided during the remembrance.
The community is also hosting a free veterans benefits seminar to educate local veterans and surviving spouses, who may be unaware that their wartime service could qualify them to receive up to $2,019 per month through the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Aid and Attendance program.
The purpose of the seminar is to offer details about the history of Aid and Attendance, outline the requirements to qualify for this tax-free benefit, and inform applicants about the needed documentation. Aid and Attendance is one of the VA’s most overlooked available benefits. Space is limited so guests are asked to RSVP by calling Marion Woods at 352-671-1700.
Marion Woods is one of Holiday Retirement’s more than 300 Independent Retirement Living communities throughout the United States and Canada.
