George Houston Overman, 89, of Ocala, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 in Ocala. He was born on June 13, 1922 in Marion, Ind., the son of the late George P. and Louise (Houston) Overman.
He attended Purdue and Indiana Universities before serving in WWII in the United States Army Air Force. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Pythias and a faithful member of the Sons of The American Revolution (SAR). The Overman family operated a Poultry Business in Marion, Indiana for many years. George retired from General Motors in 1987 and moved to Ocala in 1990.
He was preceded in death by a son Brian D. Overman.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth (Betty); sons, Philip L. Overman, Houston, Texas, Dennis E. (Elaine) Overman, Valley Center, Calif., and David C. Overman, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; daughters, Margery L. Overman, Madison, Wis., and Linda (Tony) Hinrichs, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at 2 p.m., in the TimberRidge Chapel of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 S.W. 110th St. Ocala, with the Rev. Dale E. Travis Sr. of Living Water Wesleyan Church, Dunnellon, officiating.
