Friends present a Hospice Fashion Show

-A A +A
By Carol Jones

Friends of Freedom Public Library invite Corridor residents to the annual meeting Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. in the library meeting room, because we are going to have a fashion show.

The immediate business, voting in the new officers, will be attended to first as required in the by-laws. Candidates will be presented to the membership: Patricia (Pat) Babski, president; Kermit Clark, vice president; Joan Richards, secretary; Janet Wise, treasurer. After nominations are heard and accepted from the floor, voting will proceed.

With the business concluded, Hospice of Marion County will take center stage for a fashion show. Presenting their theme of Casual Wear, six volunteers from the stores will model selected clothing of a quality guaranteed to catch your interest.

Moderated by Jan Hathaway, marketing manager for Hospice, most of the outfits shown will be provided from the Thrift Store in Jasmine Plaza.

Join us for an interesting and entertaining afternoon. Refreshments will be served.

Card Catalog

Have you walked into Freedom Public Library lately and wondered where they hid the card catalog? Never fear, it’s still here. But it’s on the computer.

The library has a searchable catalog available on its Web site which can be accessed from any computer. Did you know you can even request books from the comfort of your own home?

Here’s how:

3 Go to www://library.marioncountyfl.org.

3 Click on Catalogs and Databases and then search the catalog to open the basic search page. A basic search lets you search by author, title, series, or keyword.

3 After you enter your search keyword, the catalog returns a list of library items matching the search criteria that you entered.

3 When you find the item you want, you may wish to view more information about it. The catalog can tell you if the item is checked in at the library, provide a brief summary about the item, and link to more items by the same author or related subjects within the library.

3 If the item you want is currently checked out, you can make a “Hold” request. The library will then hold the item for you and let you know when it becomes available.

As always, the library staff is ready and able to assist you in using the online catalog as well as with any other questions.

Writers Group

For its Jan. 17 meeting only, the Freedom Writers group of Florida Writers Association will meet earlier than usual. Starting at 10:30 a.m., finishing no later than 12:30 p.m. to allow set-up time for the Friends and Hospice fashion show. The Feb. 21 meeting returns to 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Scrapbooking Group

Mark your calendar for Saturday, Jan. 24, to attend the Creative Memories Scrapbooking class from 1 to 4 p.m. Now is the time to get those frustrating files of photos and clippings arranged in a book you’ll be proud of. For more information, call Karen David at 237-8953 and visit www.mycmsite.com/karendavid.

Attention, Group Leaders

If the library does not have current contact information on file and no valid phone number, your group cannot be contacted when necessary. Your group leader must complete a 2009 Meeting Room Application Form.

Please stop in or call Heather Ogilvie at 438-2580 before your next meeting. Do not assume all will remain as is. Surely you’ve heard about that word, assume?

Library Closed

The library will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
