Don’t forget to deposit nice eggs in basket for soldiers

-A A +A
By Nancy Archer

Here’s hoping you are hopping by to put Easter eggs in our soldiers’ basket. We are sending out many boxes filled with items you have recently donated. I’m trying hard to keep up with the soldiers being deployed form Iraq to Afghanistan. I have lost contact with Shirley Ricon and hope she will email her new address.

We have a new soldier added to our list, Fernando Bocanegra from Alaska. He is one of the newest sent to Afghanistan on March 12. Fernando will be sharing with 22 males and seven females. They expect to be there until March 31, 2010. Please read his letter.  I copy soldier’s letters as written. No editing.

It has been six years since I started “SOS’ and thank you for keeping up the support. It is grueling for our soldiers going through two to five deployments. I have not heard any complaints from the soldiers I have been in contact with. New soldiers are constantly being deployed and still need us. We may get tired of donating, but their job is far more wearing. Freedom isn’t Free, as they have relayed to us many times.

Aunt Doreen is one of my favorite contributors to SOS. Her husband was a veteran of WW II. She just visited us with Aunt Mary and left $50 for our funds. Both aunts answered the poster, “Keep ‘em Flying, Miss U.S.A.”

When the United States entered World War II, American women were called on to serve the nation in many ways. Unprecedented numbers of women entered the ranks of factory works, helping American industry meet the wartime production demands for planes, tanks, ships, and weapons. Our aunts are still true patriots.

Ladies Luncheon

The March luncheon was attended by 20 ladies. Martha Creed and Frances Tisheuar had birthdays this month. Christine Archer won the door prize. The 50/50 winners were Sue Anderson, Mimi Sokoloski and Pat Eveland. We would like to see more ladies for next month’s luncheon that is on April 8 at noon. We also would like to talk about who might want to take over running the luncheon in June. Bring a covered dish to share.
