-A A +A

OTOW Lions to provide service

On Sept. 10, the On Top of the World Lions Club in cooperation with the Ocala West United Methodist Church, will engage in diabetes screening for adults and eye screening for children ages 1 to 6.
The event will take place between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. at the church, 9330 S.W. 105th St.
At the same time the church members will be selling their first seasonal breakfast.
The treatment of vision impairment and its prevention is paramount to the mission of Lions Clubs.
Diabetes is a major cause of vision impairment. The purpose of this screening is to identify the possibility of diabetes in someone not aware of it. The results of this screening is a snapshot in time. If the results are outside the acceptable range, the individual will be given the results and asked to check with their family physician.
The eye screening of the children is to look for problems that may cause Amblyopic (lazy eye). If caught between the ages of 1 to 6, the condition is much easier to correct. Often the wearing of an eye patchover the good eye causes correction to the lazy eye.
State of the art testing equipment will be used. The test only takes a few seconds. The equipment gives a complete printout to be taken to an ophthalmologist.
These tests are open to the public and are free of charge as a public service.
There is a $5 cost for the breakfast.
