Day of Champions Monday

Horse racing is coming to Ocala Breeders Sale on Monday, March 14. Post time is 1 p.m. for the first race in the annual Day of Champions.

Four races are scheduled for the afternoon. Two races are sprints of six furlongs with a $50,000 guaranteed purse. The additional two races are a mile and one-sixteenth with winner the winner sharing a $100,000 purse.

Each race is limited to 14 horses.

Approximately 260 three-year olds are eligible for the race, meaning the filly, colt or gelding has gone through the Ocala Breeders’ complex during a least one sale. 

Although betting on the races isn’t allowed, visitors still flock to the Ocala Breeder Sales complex, on Southwest 60th Avenue, across from the airport, to see the horses race.

The races are run the day before OBS’ March Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 15 - 16.
