Charles F. Stein, 81

Charles F. Stein, of Ocala, 81, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 in Ocala. Born on Nov. 25, 1929 in Waterbury, Conn., son of the late C. Francis and Ethel (Marquard) Stein, he moved to Ocala, in 1986 from Golden’s Bridge, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Charlie was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala. He was supervisor for AT&T Long Lines Division of White Plains, N.Y., for 30 years; where he was the 1994 recipient of the AT&T Vail Award for Heroism. He was a volunteer firefighter with GBFD, N.Y., for 50 years, including being fire chief for 4 years; and most recently the president of Fire Commissioners at Friendship Fire Department Volunteers of Ocala. He was treasurer of the New York Club in Oak Run and treasurer of the local AT&T Pioneers. He was an avid bowler for over 60 years and enjoyed camping and traveling.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Laura; children, Patricia Minotti (Louis) of Dunnellon, Charlotte Katz (Janice) of Ocala, and Charles F. Stein Jr. (Robin) of Dunnellon; sister, Barbara Manneman (Edward) of East Ford, Conn.; brother, Alan Stein of Port Chester, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was Tuesday, Sep. 13, 2011 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala.
