Bring a mat and work off the fat

-A A +A
By Jan Liberio

Did I say winter was over? Seems to me that this is one of the coldest winters we have had in Ocala in a long time. At least for the eight years we have lived here.

Does anyone have a record of a colder or longer one? I know it’s better (much better) than snow and ice … but this is Florida. It’s supposed to be warm.

The featured group this week is the Energetic Exercisers. Just like the Mah-jongg gals, this group is not exclusively for women but again they have not found any men brave or energetic enough to join them.

Delores Pecor leads the gals on Mondays and Thursdays with light impact exercises. Joan Laliberty leads on Saturdays with weights and stretching. All three sessions are at 9 a.m. at the Clubhouse. Bring a mat or rug.

There is no charge and everyone is welcome (even the men). If you think these exercises are for wimps come and spend and hour with these energetic gals and see what you think.

Most of these ladies will move outside in May or when weather permits. Then the exercises will be in the swimming pool. It’s a great way to spend an hour with the ladies plus find out what is going on in the world.

Come on, let’s get energetic.

Clubhouse Spruce-up

Spruce Creek North’s Clubhouse interior has been completely re-painted. Our manager, Ray, did a beautiful job. He was looking for new “prints’ for the walls. Anyone have any ideas?

The Clubhouse looks so fresh and clean. Great job, Ray.

Mah-jongg Tourney

There was a mah-jongg tournament Feb. 4 and 11. It was great fun and we had three women from Marion Landing come and join the fun.

Three ladies tied for first place: Lorraine Russo from Marion Landing, Charlotte Berrent and Doris Conover both from Spruce Creek North, Kaye Seagraves second, Betty Testa and Jan Liberio third. Unfortunately they only paid up to second place. Darn!

Charlotte Berrent, the chairperson, will plan another tournament at a later time.

Great Breakfast

Another breakfast was served by Norm Simard and his Pancake People on Jan. 31. Remember pancakes and French toast will be served the last Saturday of every month.

The next breakfast is Feb. 28 …  that’s tomorrow from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Frozen Out

It has been too cold for horseshoe pitching the last few weeks but they are back on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. Anyone interested? Go join the Pitchers! Richard Simmons is the chairperson and organizer for this group.

Bocce and shuffleboard have also been sidelined due to the colder weather. But they should be returning soon. Contact Ed Watson for both events.

Ping Pong is inside, and get in touch with Ben Medolla for times and days.

Singles Club

Has anyone come forth and volunteered to be chairperson for the Singles Club? I am sure whoever takes over this position will have lots of help from the other members. They have some nice fun days planned throughout the year.

White Elephant

Oak Run had another wonderful White Elephant sale. If you have never been to their annual sale make sure you go the next time. I believe they have two a year, but I missed the other one. There are tons of great things to buy.

They also have lunches. Be prepared. There are a lot of people hunting for bargains … but it is a garage sale paradise.

Board Meeting

If Spruce Creek North’s residents missed the monthly Board of Directors meeting they missed out on a wonderful presentation from Economy Garage Doors. Lisa Edwards and her helpers gave out some wonderful gifts, some of which were contracts worth $99 to the residents. These contracts were for complete service on your overhead garage doors for one year.

They also handed out small gifts to everyone present. They demonstrated ways to take care of your door to avoid costly repairs. Thank you, Economy Doors!

Our monthly Board meetings are the third Wednesday at 7 p.m. Let’s help our directors help you by attending as many meetings as you can. You never know when it will be worth your trip to the Clubhouse.

Don’t you think Spring might be here soon? I hope so. I will be back in the Citizen in two weeks. Thanks for all the support.
