Bingo is a good call for fun

-A A +A
By Jan Liberio

Welcome 2009. Let’s hope this year is a happy, healthy and prosperous one for all.

Spruce Creek North’s dinner dance was a big success. Our hats are off to Norm and Marge Simard, and Cindy Hutchins and her Social Committee plus an ambitious group of volunteers helping with the cooking, serving, and many other jobs. Everyone seemed to enjoy a gala evening.

Too early to report on the New Years’ Eve party and dance. There is a Valentines’ Day Dance planned for Feb. 21. More information as it comes in.

Bingo Bunch

As usual with all my columns I have a featured club, committee or person and this time it happens to be our Bingo Bunch.

Bingo is played every Tuesday night. Doors open at 5:45 and the games begin at 6:45 p.m. The chairperson is a delightful lady by the name of Pauline Shannon and she handles many jobs beside chairperson.

There are four treasurers, four callers, four sellers and four raffle sellers plus many subs. I stopped in with Marge Simard to take pictures and have to say, I am not a bingo player but just meeting all the friendly bunch of people I might be tempted to go play sometime.

The initial cost is $8 and this gives you a chance to play all night. But there are “extras” you can play at a slight “extra” cost. They sell 50/50 tickets to try your luck. It is definitely a “fun night” out.

There is another group of women who run the Bingo Kitchen and are ready to serve up some goodies – but that would fill up another page so maybe more about them next time.

Residents and non-residents are all welcome. For some of our new residents, this would give you a chance to meet some of your neighbors.

Club News

Ping pong players meet at our Clubhouse every Sunday at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. This is a very energetic group.

Euchre scores have come in and they will be posted in the Spruce Creek North Newsletter. Remember, Euchre is played at 7 p.m. every Monday.

We need news from the Pinochle and Bridge clubs. Come on folks, you must have some exciting things to tell us.

Shuffleboard and bocce … where are you?

Craft Club news from Marlene Dorner. They will resume all their crafts Jan. 7, at 9 a.m. New people, please bring your new ideas.

Bicycling Club reports from Lori Littleton. Please wear your helmets when bicycling. Bright colored clothes helps other drivers see you.

There is a bike trail off S.W. 49th Street. Beware of wild animals along this beautiful route. Always wear your ID on your shoe or in your helmet in case of emergency. Thanks for the information, Lori.

Got some nice pictures of the line dancers. You all look so professional. Doris Nichols is the teacher and it looks like she is doing a very good job with her “students.” They all meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays. There is no charge. (Aren’t those great words to hear?)

Our exercise room is getting re-organized. There will be some new equipment, and some old equipment is being removed for safety reasons. Our exercise room is for residents only.

Newsletter News

Welcome aboard Sue Pelton. She has agreed to be our new newsletter ad manager. Lori Littleton, unfortunately, due to health reasons had to resign the position after doing such a wonderful job. Lori is helping Pat with the changeover. We wish Pat the best.

Board Meeting

Don’t forget Spruce Creek North residents, there will be a Board meeting Jan. 21. This is a very important meeting and we need a big turnout as this is also an election of new officers.

Mark your calendar and please attend. These officers are working for you and your community.

No Resolutions

Well ... what New Year’s resolutions are you making that you most likely will not keep 2 weeks or 2 days?

No resolutions for me ... just a big wish that the New Year will bring an upswing in the economy and jobs, and homes will be saved. Also that gas prices stay below $2.

Whoa! That is four wishes. Have a blessed New Year. Thanks for all your support.
