Betty Jane Smith Eckerdt, 71

Betty Jane Smith Eckerdt, 71, of Ocala, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011. She was born in Phillips Town, Ala.
She has lived in Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky and moved to Ocala in 2000. She was an avid golfer and loved volunteering at the VFW.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, son, Everett, and sister, Elizabeth Haskew.
She is survived by her husband, Don; daughter, Donna Smith; four sisters, Doris Holt of Ocala, Mary Lawrence of Alabama, Lynda Fields of Alabama, Vonda Longora of Idaho; half-sister, Vinita Elms of California; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of her life at VFW Post 4781 in the first part of January.
